Journey to Independence

This project was a journey that a group of participative community artists took with over 30 adults with learning disabilities supported by Coventry Community Services.

The notion of barriers to development and therefore independence is a well known one. Within this project the artists involved worked with film, drama and music to overcome fears of travelling independently and dealing with issues of bullying and intimidation.

As part of the ArtsPEP (Arts Participation in Employability Project), 'Journey to Independence' represents a creative way in which to help people with learning disabilities overcome anxieties and grow in confidence to enable them to discover greater freedom of choice and access to employment.

Produced in 2007 for ArtsPEP in association with Coventry Community Services.
