More About the Film and Video Work Area
The Community Gallery incorporates a dedicated professional video production department that caters for a 'script-to-screen' approach to video making. This facility offers support for pre-production, production and post-production filmmaking. The equipment used consists of both MAC and PC based non-linear digital editing suites, which are supported by both DV and Digital8 video cameras and professional sound equipment. Our in-house production facilities are able to accommodate professional, commercial and community productions alike.
As well as enabling participatory group work and video productions on varying scales, CAW also works on an individual basis with people who have more specific requirements, thus allowing for freedom of creative expression in a safe and nurturing environment.
By developing new, sustainable skills and experience with digital video production equipment, video workshops and commissioned work can result in an increased awareness of the media and the community at large, greater personal development, experience of working as part of a team, and an improvement in self-confidence.
Part of the empowerment process for the groups or individuals involved in a project will often result in a private or public gallery screening of a film, as a way in which to show work within the wider community.
CAW can offer community workshops and training in the following areas of professional media production:
- Graphic animation
- Digital camera work
- Digital non-linear editing using Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro
- Sound recording for video
- The basics of professional media practice whilst shooting a film.
The multi-media lab project leader is a professionally trained filmmaker with over five years experience in commercial and community arts practice.
