CAW becomes a Charity!
After 11 years of operating as a ‘not for profit’ organisation the Community Arts Workshop (CAW) has just received the fantastic news that we have completed the process put in place by the Charity Commission to become a registered charity.
Over the years, CAW has undertaken many successful art related projects throughout Coventry and Warwickshire that have benefited the most disadvantaged and marginalised groups within the community such as people with ‘learning disabilities’, those coping with ‘mental health problems’, people from ethnic minorities and young people at risk. This has all been done on a not for profit basis. The CAW committee felt that is was now time to move the organisation to another level and start the process of becoming a charity and gain the official recognition that the organisation's work is truly for the benefit of others.
There are a number of financial benefits in becoming a charity including tax exemptions and the fact it is often easier to raise funds from the public, grant-making trusts and local government. The ‘Charity Tag’ also gives reassurance to the public that any donations and gifts they make are going to an organisation that is monitored and therefore will reach those most in need.
Further details will follow soon about how it will be able possible to make charitable donations to CAW so watch this space!
