Oral History Projects
CAW would like to hear from Warwickshire based local history societies, heritage groups, organisations or individuals who would be interested in producing a DVD based upon the history of their Warwickshire village or an aspect of it's industrial past. Have you ever thought about researching and documenting the history within your village? Are there people where you live who can provide a valuable insight into its past. Maybe you've previously produced a booklet but would like to work towards a digital archive of film, photographs, audio recordings or an on-line digital repository.
CAW have been facilitating oral history projects, training and reminiscence workshops across Warwickshire for almost 10 years now: click on the pictures in the column to the left to see some of the outputs of past projects.
We would like to invite interested groups and individuals to look at a new fund called 'Arts on our Doorstep'. This new scheme is a partnership project between Live & Local, Warwickshire's County Arts Service, Rugby Borough Council and Warwick District Council and aims to provide practical advice and support alongside resources up to the value of £5,000 to help local groups and individuals to organise exciting and innovative small arts projects within their community.
With advice and support from Warwickshire's County Arts Service, you could apply for funding to work with CAW to produce a creative and interactive DVD, documenting aspects of your village's social history and rural past. With the expertise of trained and experienced filmmakers and oral history trainers, you could gain the skills necessary to collate and digitally archive old photographs, produce broadcast quality audio or video recordings and interviews of people connected to your village's past and present heritage, edit together 'Digital Stories' using cutting-edge computer software or even get help with running 'Down Memory Lane' events to get the ball rolling!
The purpose of these projects are to use the arts to create a strong sense of place within communities and to deliver arts projects which have a positive impact on local people. These projects will also aim to leave a legacy of skills within the community by training and upskilling local people to develop deeper confidence in using new technologies and ways of producing creative media content.
