site accessibility information
The CAW website was originally created using tools that did
not support flexibility in font sizes, background colours, etc.. A programme
of work is under way to make the site conform to the principles of the W3C
accessibility guidelines but, as site maintenance depends on a very limited
amount of volunteer effort, this will take time.
Progress to date:
- Text sizes are now defined as percentages of the base body font, and can
be changed by either using the text size command of the browser or by a user
style sheet which adjusts the body text size.
- Text and background colours have been adjusted where necessary to provide
sufficient contrast.
- All pages have been changed to avoid the use of frames, as these gave
problems at large text sizes.
- Menu and page hierarchy have been simplified.
- All the main pages have ALT attributes describing images (excludes Hidden
Histories project and slide show of early graffology projects).
Still to be done (effort permitting):
- Table headers to be introduced to describe the contents of tables (although
most of these are only for page layout).
- Use of CSS for page layout in place of tables.
